The O.G. of procedural methods

I’ve been using procedural methods to create things in computer graphics for decades. I even developed some of the techniques that everyone in the field uses today.

Through the years I have seen some incredibly impressive work by people using procedural rendering and modeling techniques. Some of this work has been in industry and some has been in academia.

But I have to admit that nature has us all beat. I was reminded of the during a recent visit to the Brooklyn Botanical Garden, where I took this photo. The sheer variety of beautiful shapes and colors and textures was overwhelming and awe inspiring.

You might say that Nature is the O.G. of procedural methods.
