It’s a new year for all of us in the Future Reality Lab, and that means lots of new projects and ideas are in the works! 2018 was a great year for us, and an interesting year for VR overall. Between some of the first 6DOF self-contained VR headsets like the Lenovo Mirage Solo, and more promising AR tech such as the Mira Prism, we are constantly getting closer to the future that attracted me to this field of research back in 2014 when I first joined the lab.
2019 is shaping up to be promising too. Oculus will be releasing the Oculus Quest, the Vive is getting eye tracking, and even more AR devices are on the horizon. Everything, as always, keeps moving forward.
In addition to all of that, personally this is a big year for me. This will be my last year as a Ph.D. student at our lab, which means I will be making a final push to research, write, and defend my thesis! There will be much for me to write about on the topic in the coming months, so keep an eye on this blog for that.
Overall, I’m excited about the upcoming year. What are you looking forward to in 2019?
